Axiom Midi Controller - great feel, drum pads and faders. 25, 49 or 61 keys
Korg nanoKEY Midi Controller - perfect for composing on a bus or plane.
M-Audio BX8a Reference Monitors - High end, yet semi-affordable. Great sound.
Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini Audio Interface - small, portable, equipped with Pro Tools 8.
Audio Technica ATHM40FS Headphones - pro quality, yet affordable.
Rode NT1A Condensor Mic - great and affordable mic for vocals.


Software

Propellerhead Reason 4.0 - great synths, samples, effects and devices. Easy to use.
Pro Tools 8 - DAW that comes with a great piano, organ and synth, and many FX.
Drumcore 3 - excellent sounding drums w/ loops played by industry vets.


Books and Videos

Welsh's Synthesizer Cookbook - a MUST HAVE for any aspiring sound designer.
Dance Music Manual - outstanding sections on effects and synth programming.
Multi-Platinum Pro Tools DVDs - many amazing DVDs on production and engineering.
Mixing Audio - if you only read one book on Mixing, READ THIS ONE. Amazing.
